NATURAL PHENOMENON

FIRE RAINBOWS

“Fire Rainbows” are neither fire, nor rainbows, but are so called because of their brilliant pastel colors and flame like appearance. Technically they are known as circumhorizontal arc - an ice halo formed by hexagonal, plate-shaped ice crystals in high level cirrus clouds. The halo is so large that the arc appears parallel to the horizon, hence the name.
Brightly colored circumhorizontal arc occur mostly during the summer and between particular latitudes. When the sun is very high in the sky, sunlight entering flat, hexagon shaped ice crystals gets split into individual colors just like in a prism. The conditions required to form a “fire rainbow” is very precise – the sun has to be at an elevation of 58° or greater, there must be high altitude cirrus clouds with plate-shaped ice crystals, and sunlight has to enter the ice crystals at a specific angle. This is why circumhorizontal arc is such a rare phenomenon.

A colourful circumhorizon arc spans the sky near Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, in 2003.
The position of the observer is also important. Circumhorizontal arcs cannot be seen in locations north of 55°N or south of 55°S. Likewise there are certain times of the year when they are visible. For example, in London, England the sun is only high enough for 140 hours between mid-May and late July. While in Los Angeles, the sun is higher than 58 degrees for 670 hours between late March and late September.
Circumhorizontal arcs should not be confused with Iridescent clouds, which can produce a similar effect. While circumhorizontal arc occur only in cirrus clouds, iridescence often occur in altocumulus, cirrocumulus clouds and lenticular clouds but very rarely in cirrus clouds.

Circumhorizon arcs are so large that sometimes we see only parts of them where they happen to 'light' fragments of cirrus cloud. Ed Johnson (site) captured this one on June 8, 2003 on Mount Baden-Powell, California

Circumhorizon arcs are so huge that their colours sometimes appear to be those of the sky itself rather than an ice crystal halo. In this long-lens shot the halo forms a backdrop to a seemingly tiny aircraft. Picture taken at Pilesgrove, New Jersey in July 22, 2007

MY HOLIDAY

I'll tell you a story about my last holiday. But before the holidays arrived, I followed an annually event in my school that called "Bakti Desa”.
Bakdes started on 17th until 19th December 2013. Bakti Desa is an activity in which we live with villagers at Sukapura Village. I was one group with Rizkania and Rasya. We lived in Mr. Gholi’s and his wife house.

First day. When we just arrived to the village, we went to our house. After that, we met with the other student of XI IPA 2, and then we we walked around the village and we saw the beautiful scenery. At the night we went to the mosque to pray maghrib there, after pray we went to madrasah that were many children who were read al qur’an. Its my class turn to went to madrasah, we teach whatever we can teach them as long as it is positive. Other than teaching, we also invited them to play and gave them some gifts. They looked very happy and accept our presence. After we teach them, we celebrated Ghalib, Nadira, and Salma’s birthday. We gave them a cake, and we and we divided the cake for the children.

Second day. Me, Rizkania, and Rasya went to field with Mr. Gholi’s wife because she is a farmer. We we helped her planted scallion, after a while we felt tired so we rested for a moment. And then, we saw Sobari’s group is walked in field so we joined them. We went to potato field, we learned how to take potato from the ground, and we get some of the big potatoes. Then we went to cabbage field, we saw another group was cleaning the cabbage field. After that, we went back to scallion field then we have lunch there with Mr. Gholi’s wife who already cooked food for us. Then, we went back home. At the night, my friends planned to go to Dinda’s house. There, we played truth or dare and we called that night “makrab”. That was really funny and memorable moment.

Third day. This is the last day we were here. In the morning, me some of my friends wen to rabbit farms. We saw a lot of cute rabbit there, from the very small one until the big one were there. There is also still a newborn rabbit. They’re so cute, but I didn’t dare to hold the rabbit, though it was only a baby rabbit. After that, we went back home, we must prepared fo go back to our real home in Bandung. Mr. Gholi gave me, Rizkania, and Rasya some vegetables, and the other group was getting the same thing from each of their family.

That’s all my story about Bakdes. That’s a wonderful experience for me, thankyou! J

My holiday is so boring, I didn’t go anywhere. I just stayed at home, go to my grandma’s house or just hangout with my friends.

But on 2nd January 2014 until 3rd January 2014 me and some of my classmates went to Hanifa’s house. There, we watched a horror movie tittled “Pee Mak”. After that, we played uno card and fireworks. We took a picture while playing fireworks. That was funny!

The next day, 3rd January 2014 at 5 a.m we went tp Bukit Moko. We planned to see the sunrise, but the plan failed. The sun wasn’t seen clearly, and we were wrong. We wait the sun in the east, and you know what? turns its east was to the left of us. So its no wonder the sun never seen hahaha. We were just took a picture there, And then we had a breakfast in there.

After that, we went back to Hanifa”s house. On my way home, I was on motorcycles with Eka. You must feel the sensation of using motorcycles on the way from Bukit Moko! Aaaa its so amazinggg!

That’s all story about my holiday. Thankyou! J
